Hello there and welcome to the first edition of Sonic Pi Weekly - the newsletter to help you keep on top of the many exciting things happening in the Sonic Pi community.
Of course, the most exciting thing to have happened is the release of v2.1 which is available for Raspberry Pi, Mac and now Windows! Clearly, supporting Windows is a big and exciting deal. However, I'm personally most excited about all the Raspberry Pi specific work that has gone into this release. There are many performance optimisations included which really make the Sonic Pi on Raspberry Pi experience truly joyful. In fact it's so joyful that I've even started jamming with my Raspberry Pi in all my performance gigs!
So power up your Raspberry Pi, throw v2.1 on it and get your live_loop on...

Sonic Pi: Live & Coding Toolkit
This year I have been working very closely with the Sonic Pi: Live & Coding project. This was an arts-led partnership which explored Sonic Pi as an instrument in its own right. We tested it within music lessons in schools resulting in a 5 day summer school at the Cambridge Junction. This website summarises this work as well as providing links to all the material created. Highlights include schemes of work for music lessons, 10 "Pop Pi" music videos created with Sonic Pi and a research report.

CYMATICS: Science Vs. Music - Nigel Stanford
Each week we'll have a "One Last Thing" link that's not directly related to Sonic Pi itself but is something you might find interesting. This week Nigel Stanford's fun well-produced video does an amazing job at making the invisible intricate beauty of sound waves visible for us to enjoy.
